Bernd Haferkamp

Bernd Haferkamp is our dedicated Exup builder. A native of California and former Navy SEAL, for the past half-decade he has focused his attention on building with Insulated Concrete Forms (ICFs).

Originator of the Exup house in a container concept, Bernd is a master of combining conventional building with outside the box, unconventional ideas. Part owner of ICF Installers Inc, the largest ICF installing company in Southern California, Bernd is a dyed in the wool ICF fanatic. He has built ICF structures with everybody from church volunteers to Habitat for Humanity work-crews to Navy reservists, always bringing strong leadership and motivation to every building site.

With over 30 projects to his credit, he brings youthful energy to every one. A bear of a man, he is a former Naval Pentathlete and world champion life-saver. When he's not pouring sweat (and blood) into building with concrete, he enjoys underwater breath-holding contests with his wife (another Naval Pentathlon champion) and young daughter at their local pool. His daughter usually wins.
