Nik Hawks
Nik Hawks is the CEO of Exup, and an adventurer at heart. He has sailed a small boat (J22) from San Diego to Key West via the Panama Canal and traveled in over 30 countries. At Exup, he has combined his experience as a Navy SEAL with his passion for green building to change construction in high threat environments.
Mr. Hawks has worked as a security contractor in Iraq, where the idea of applying green building principles to create extremely secure camps, simply, occurred to him.
On his return from Iraq he sought to gain first-hand experience in building, and went to work for Bernd Haferkamp, building ICF houses. That experience demonstrated to him how well-suited ICFs, and green building in general, are for building in high threat and hostile environments. From there, the Exup idea and business were born.
A former Naval Pentathlete, Mr. Hawks finds time most days to punish himself on runs, swims, or surf sessions. He extends the offer to any visitors to the San Diego area to join him in these workouts, but makes no guarantee that you’ll be able to keep up.
