Hydro PowerWhat are the benefits? Hydroelectric power, or hydro, is deluxe power. It is the world’s largest source of renewable electricity. It is the renewable energy answer to television, refrigeration, and phantom loads.
Why does Exup use it? It is cost effective, environmentally friendly at small-scale levels, and can produce an extraordinary amount of power. In water rich environments with fast moving streams, hydro is an excellent use of resources.
How does it work? Water under pressure from gravity spins a turbine that produces power. Hydropower output is dependent on the amount of water times the height of its fall, or “head” . Ideal hydro sites for residential production are low volume/high head, or mountain streams.
Can it work with other renewables? Like any power generation system, hydropower systems can be combined with other energy sources, from solar to wind to utility power. In areas with wet and dry seasons, hydropower can produce during the wet season, and during the dry season solar and wind can take over.
