Power Generation

What kind of power do we use?

Exup focuses on “green” energy, which is energy that comes from a renewable source. Whether is is solar energy from the sun, or turbine driven energy from the wind or water, or even energy generated from waste products such as cooking oil, using renewable energy has one of the biggest impacts on both the environmental and economic bottom line in any camp.

Why is renewable energy so important for Exup?

Renewable energy offers two main benefits common to all Exup applications (high threat/hostile environment, post-disaster) as well as specific benefits to each application.

  • Economic

Using renewable energy cuts down on operating costs drastically, and can pay for itself in as little as 3 years. As the emissions trading market evolves, every Exup camp or building will be able to capitalize on the clean energy it produces.

  • Environmental

Renewable energy is environmentally friendly and promotes a positive public image. While it doens't fit on the balance sheet of many corporations, by protecting the environment Exup believes that we will build a stronger business model.

  • What are the benefits in high-threat/hostile environments?

One of the greatest advantages an Exup camp in a high-threat environment has is its ability to stand independent of fuel deliveries. This decreases front-gate traffic, increasing security. Another benefit delivered by renewable energy is an extraordinarily robust power grid.

With each building providing its own energy, it doesn’t matter if one is destroyed by mortar fire; surrounding buildings remain functional. If getting energy to the damaged building is mission critical, it can draw of its neighbors and be on-line within minutes, versus the days or weeks it takes with a gas or diesel-run generator.

What are the benefits in post-disaster environments?

In a post-disaster environment, power supplies can often take weeks or months to be brought back on-line, and are then subject to the next disaster. With each building producing its own power, the network of power plants is difficult to entirely destroy. By creating a web of generation every building becomes a power plant, and the energy grid becomes strong, supple, and flexible.
