Water Purification

What is it?

Water purification is the use of various techniques and technologies to provide clean drinking water from any source. Exup buildings use water sources ranging from rainwater catchment to surface or well water to municipal water. Each source provides the opportunity to use different technologies to provide one of the most important human resources: water.

How important is water purification?

According to the EPA, over 40 million Americans drink water contaminated with lead, radiation, parasites, or fecal coliform bacteria. In post-disaster areas, the amount of water contaminated directly affects the health of the population, and can make the difference between a rapid and vibrant rebuilding process and one marked by disease outbreaks and slow progress.

How does the water purification process work?

The first step to take when designing any filtration system is to test the water, to see what contaminants need to be addressed. Once contaminants have been identified, then we take focused steps from pre-filtration to non-chemical treatment to eliminate them.

How do Exup buildings provide clean water?

Well-designed buildings incorporate multiple techniques and technologies for efficient and effective water purification.

  • Source selection

Exup uses rainwater collection to provide the cleanest initial water at the lowest possible cost. Municipal and well water can supplement rainwater catchments, keeping utility costs down and using water cleaned by nature.

  • Filtration and Treatment

Exup uses physical filtration, activated carbon, ultraviolet light (UV) and ozone purification to produce clean, pure, healthy water in a cost-efficient and earth friendly way. Through point of entry filters, all water coming into an Exup-designed building is exceptionally clean and healthy.

  •

    Potable Water Management

Exup uses point of use filters (clean what you need) to produce potable water effectively and efficiently. Multiple technologies ensure that healthy water is available throughout a building, from the drinking tap to the showerhead.

    Providing excess clean water

In appropriate environments such as disaster areas or other areas where supplies of potable water are low and/or unreliable, Exup designs buildings to produce excess drinking water, creating a pure and safe watering point for the surrounding area.
